PLAYMOBIL 9483 Marten & Oopjen

Marten & Oopjen: 400 years together
Marten was the son of a wealthy Flemish immigrant who owned a successful sugar refinery in Amsterdam. In 1634 the self-assured Marten sat to Rembrandt, then one of Amsterdam’s most sought-after portraitists. They may have met in Leiden where Marten previously had been pursuing a law degree. His lavish costume trimmed with expensive lace and the enormous rosettes on his shoes led to him being dubbed a dandy in the 19th century.

In contrast to the newcomer Marten, Oopjen’s family had already been living in Amsterdam for generations. Her grandfather had made his fortune trading grain and gunpowder, and her father belonged to Amsterdam’s small group of powerful rulers. Even though Oopjen’s clothing is less modern than Marten’s, with her black silk gown and expensive jewellery she was certainly showing off her wealth.

Two masterpieces in one Playmobilset
The Playmobilset exists of two miniatures from Marten Soolmans and Oopjen Coppit, complete with fan.
